A child should see a dentist regularly so that we can monitor the development of their teeth and jaw. That way, any problems can be detected and treated before complications or other problems ensue.
Not only can we help familiarise your child with the practice and our team, but we can also help you teach your children how to brush and floss properly.
Once your child’s first tooth erupts, it is a good idea to book an appointment with a dentist for their first visit. After that, we recommend regular visits throughout childhood, normally twice a year.
Seeing a dentist regularly can reduce the likelihood a child will develop dental anxiety and become a nervous patient later in life.
Developing good habits early on will help your child maintain good oral health practises for a lifetime.
As soon as they can hold a tooth brush, show them how to brush their teeth properly. Encourage them to play an active role in taking care of their teeth by allowing them to choose their toothbrush and toothpaste. Sing songs, count their teeth or let them brush your teeth to make it a fun experience. You will still have to help them clean their teeth until they are about age 7.
Ensure their diet is low in sugar and minimise their consumption of foods that can stain their teeth.
